Last week I packed up my sock monkey slippers and headed to Vegas for the SAVEUR Best Food Blog Awards. Now, this was my first time in Vegas believe it or not and I figured what better way to go than as a SAVEUR Best Food Blog Nominee.
Let me just take a moment and read that again. SAVEUR. Nominee. I should probably just go ahead and get that tattooed on my arm so whenever I feeling like I should give up and post “how to make a cake out of a box” just to increase my page views, I will remember that there are people out there like you who think that what I’m doing here works. Thank you SAVEUR for the amazing gift of acknowledgement you have given me and all of us food bloggers who share the love of creative and delicious food and drink from our very own kitchens!
My husband tagged along with me and was exited to get some training runs in the desert mountains that surround Las Vegas (crazy? yes. but then again he’s training for a 100 mile race – I just don’t ask questions anymore). When we first hit the strip I had my first drunk Elvis and Big Bird siting and I knew this was going to be EPIC! We arrived at the gorgeous Bellagio who was hosting us for the week and immediately hit the casino. I won and lost $50 before my first cocktail was even finished and figured that was enough gambling for me. Let’s face it — I’m really here for the food, drinks, and drunk Elvis sitings.
After a delicious night at Sinsi, Tim and I hit the room early and quickly fell asleep to the sound of the Bellagio fountains right outside our window only to be woken up a few hours later by what I can only presume was a drunk Elvis playing basketball in the hallway. No worries because the next day made up for the lack of sleep. We started out with a beautiful breakfast at the Bellagio Pool Cafe that was made even better by Zonin Prosecco and Manderin Napolean drinks. Cocktails at 9am? Yes, please!
After breakfast, we were then whisked off to the control center for the Bellagio Fountains or the “BatCave” as the Bellagio calls it and given a tour. Did you know that all of the money thrown into the fountains gets picked up every morning, cleaned, and then donated to charity? True story.
Next we met Jason Smith, Director of Wine and the Master Sommelier for the Bellagio, who treated us to a fabulous Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin at Bellagio’s Picasso. While sipping champagne on the porch we picked a few songs and were given our own Bellagio fountain show.
That night after an amazing progessive dinner at Fix and Circo we were treated to a extravagant cocktail party at Hyde.
The party was my favorite part. We all got to relax and enjoy every minute. This is Betsy Andrews, the Executive Editor of SAVEUR. She probably has the best job on the planet in my opinion.
It was certainly a pleasure and inspiring to meet all of these amazingly talented bloggers who share the same passion for fresh beautiful food and photography. Finally after a year of talking to her on twitter, I got to meet Prerna from Indian Simmer in person.
I’m blown away by the talent in this picture and so proud to be apart of it! If you haven’t already, I urge you to check out this year’s nominees and winners because I promise they will inspire you too.
It was a phenomenal moment in my blogging career and one I will not forget. Thank you SAVEUR for the opportunity and the magnificent experience. Every Time I put on these torn and tattered slippers I can’t believe all of the places they have taken me. I can still remember the night I was wearing them and said, “Lets start a blog.”
